On one wonderful winter day my mother and I were at home, getting ready for a walk outside. As always, it took us a long while to finally get dressed, and that turned out to be life-saving for our neighbour.
Suddenly, my mother said that she has heard some weird clatter outside, trying to make sure that I also heard it. I obliviously respond that I haven't heard anything extraordinary.
- Listen closer!
- Huh, for real, maybe someone's doing repairs?
- Hmm, no, it sounds like somebody's knocking on a window...
- Mum, what window? Our flat's on the 8th floor...
However, glass clinking can be heard throughout the whole apartment. We start rushing around the flat, searching for the sound origin. And, seriously, there was someone on the balcony, covered in snow, knocking on the window...
First impulse was to call 911. But putting away all the fright, we looked a little closer: there was an elderly woman, standing outside and crying, begging for us to let her in. Shocked, we let her inside, and recognised our neighbour. The unbelievable occurance of guests coming inside through a window was explained easily: her grandson accidentally closed the balcony, and left his grandmother to freeze outside, so she decided to climb over to our balcony to seek help. After resolving everything up, we all laughed it off, feeling much more relieved, than ever before.
