1 Karen Kosiba knows about storms. She’s a scientist. She studies the weather and can tell us how
storms form. Karen uses tools such as a truck, computers, and maps to see how storms form. She
studies clouds and tracks how wind moves.
Karen knows a lot about one kind of storm. It is called a tornado. A tornado can form in a
5 thunderstorm. A tornado is a wind that spins very fast. It touches the ground. It can pick up
things. It can even pick up cars.
Karen learns more about storms. This helps scientists to make better forecasts. Forecasts tell
what the weather will be like and can tell people if a storm will happen. They can tell people to
get ready for bad weather and to stay safe.
